☆ Mad Track Arena is home to the only indoor velodrome of its kind in the United States. Our signature feature is a 1/10th-mile wooden oval track with steep 50-degree banked turns, purpose-built for high-speed, adrenaline-pumping Madison racing—a dynamic two-person team relay on brakeless bikes.
☆ Beyond the velodrome, the arena also includes a weight area and a 1/8th-mile flat oval track with dedicated running, skating, and walking lanes, offering flexible options for fitness enthusiasts of all kinds.
☆ More than just a sports facility, Mad Track Arena is also a premier event venue, ideal for parties, corporate events, car shows, flea markets, weddings, receptions, birthday celebrations, and so much more. Whether you’re here to ride, roll, or celebrate—MTA has something for everyone.
The name Mad Track Arena comes from a combination of the sport’s history, the venue’s unique design, and its purpose as a multi-use facility.
The word Mad is a nod to the Madison race, an endurance cycling event that was invented in Madison Square Garden in 1899. This historic race, which has also been featured in the Olympic Games, is the inspiration for the cycling game we host on our velodrome.
The word Track refers to the core of our facility: an indoor wooden cycling oval with steep 50-degree turns and 20-degree straightaways. This unique design is specifically built for high-speed cycling and up close viewing experiences.
Finally, the word Arena highlights our 64,000 square-foot indoor dome. Beyond just cycling, this versatile space will host a variety of activities, programs, and events.
Anyone 18 years of age or older is required to pay the facility admission fee. The only exceptions are parents / guardians bringing kids for the Learn to Ride a Bike classes or track classes.
Outside of those programs, parents / guardians are required to pay the $5 admission fee when bringing their children to use the facility.
While admission is free for children, the $5 fee helps cover the cost of maintaining, repairing, cleaning, and replacing the bikes and skates that we provide. This allows us to offer equipment for kids who may not have their own and helps keep our programs affordable and accessible for everyone.
You are welcome to bring your kid’s bike, skates, or scooter for use during the appropriate sessions for no cost.
The outer oval is primarily intended as a learning space where younger children can safely develop their cycling skills. It is designed to help kids ages 12 and under learn to ride a bike and build the confidence needed to eventually progress to riding on the velodrome. There are exceptions to this rule but it’s at the discretion of the track staff to make the decision.
We also offer free velodrome instruction for riders ages 17 and under, providing older youth with an opportunity to continue advancing their cycling skills in an environment designed for high speed riding.
Because older riders generally travel at faster speeds, allowing bikes ridden by teens on the outer oval can create safety concerns for other users of the space, including walkers, runners, roller skaters, and younger children who are still learning. These guidelines help ensure that the outer oval remains a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
